Five TSA Screeners were fired this week for not doing their jobs. Instead of doing the random screenings they were being paid to do, they simply did nothing.
Along with the fired five, 38 others have been suspended.
Florida’s News Press newspaper reports:
The Transportation Security Administration has fired five security workers at Southwest Florida International Airport following a claim that they were neglecting to perform random screenings.
The disciplinary action follows TSA’s recommendation last month that five workers be fired and 38 be suspended for failing to give passengers random screenings.
Since then, 33 employees have been suspended, three have been cleared and one has received a letter of reprimand, according to spokeswoman Sari Koshetz.
The discipline follows an internal investigation which found that up to 400 passengers traveling during a two-month period last year never received additional random checks. Those involved represent about 15 percent of TSA’s workers at Southwest Florida International Airport. TSA brought screeners from other airports to fill in for those disciplined.
