What do TSA Officers do when they’re supposed to be working?
Well, when they’re not stealing from passengers, they like to talk on their cell phones!
They may even be using cell phones stolen from passengers! After all, 318 TSA employees were arrested in 2011, many for stealing.
All this chit-chat got in their way of their jobs. So much so, that today the TSA announced it had fired 6 of the TSA’s finest. The Boston Globe reports:
The Transportation Security Administration has moved to fire six bag-screening officers at Logan International Airport for violating inspection procedures for checked luggage and suspend 14 others for inattention to duty, the agency said.
The action was triggered by a routine audit that showed some officers were not paying close attention to computer monitors that display the contents of each bag as they are screened by an explosives detection machine, according to the TSA. The screeners were distracted by their cellphones and other electronic devices.
Others ignored protocols to hand-inspect bags that triggered alarms. Bags containing dense objects, such as clay or cheese, can set off alarms, although it happens infrequently. If an officer can’t determine what the object is on-screen, the bag is supposed to be brought into a screening room for further inspection before it is loaded onto a plane.
Imagine that! Taking taxpayer money and goofing off on-the-job. Presumably, before being fired they must have been warned repeatedly. But that doesn’t stop the TSA employees from doing whatever they want.
The TSA wants to unionize to prevent the ability of the Government to fire them. No wonder, seeing that they don’t want to work.
Why is TSA attracting and hiring so many criminals, sex offenders and pedophiles? This screener was under investigation by the FBI and they hired him anyway. So, two weeks later he is arrested by the FBI while working checkpoints for TSA. How does someone like this get hired and given access to children and more importantly how many more are out there?
In the past three months 35 TSA workers were fired or arrested and 66 more disciplined for misconduct.
There were 99 TSA workers arrested in the last 20 months including 13 arrested for child sex crimes, over 26 for theft, 12 for smuggling contraband through security and one for murder.
TSA allows a known pedophile, Thomas Harkins to remain employed as a TSA Supervisor in Philadelphia giving him access to search children. What kind of agency turns a known sex offender loose on children?
TSA needs to be replaced with something that actually works and those responsible for allowing this prosecuted.
